about me
I, Vincent Pickerill desire to live coram deo (Latin for "before the face of God") and soli deo gloria (Latin for "for the glory of God alone").
I have the same purpose as anyone else in life, which is encompassed in Question 1 of The Westminster Shorter Catechism that is as follows.
Question: What is the chief end of man?
Answer: Man’ s chief end is to glorify God, (Ps. 86:9, Isa. 60:21, Romans 11:36, 1 Cor. 6:20, 1 Cor. 10:31) and to enjoy him for ever. (Ps. 16:5-11, Ps. 144:15, Isa. 12:2, Luke 2:10, Phil. 4:4, Rev. 21:3-4)
My earthly mission and life's work is to spread the Good News (also known as the Gospel) of Jesus Christ so as He may be glorified, praised, and worshipped as He rightly deserves. This is in line with the Great Commission commanded by Jesus (Matt. 28:16-20) before He ascended to His Father in heaven (Luke 24:50-53), where He is currently reigning until all His enemies are made His footstool (1 Cor. 15:24-27, Ps. 110).
about the domain name/title
Each and every name has a meaning, and such is the name I chose for my site The King and His Kingdom comes.
I chose the domain name/title of this website very carefully and prayerfully. I did not want to use my name in the domain, or try to focus the website too much on me at a personal level. As stated above my purpose for living and desire is to glorify God. So that is the purpose of this website to glorify God.
The domain name and the title The King and His Kingdom comes refers to the King of kings, Jesus Christ (Isa. 9:6-7, Luke 1:32-33, John 18:37, 1 Cor. 15:25).
And His (inaugurated) Kingdom comes after all His enemies have been made His footstool (Ps.110, 1 Cor. 15:25). Though, His inaugurated Kingdom is to come, He is currently reinging from His rightful place on His throne at the right hand of the Father (Heb. 12:2, Rev. 3:21) until He brings all to Him that the Father has given Him (Matthew 12:29, John 17:2,9).
I believe the holy scriptures clearly tell of a coming golden age (His Kingdom comes), where the power of the Gospel will utterly transform all nations until Jesus Christ returns in His second coming. He will usher in the New Jerusalem, heaven on earth. This view corresponds with a high of a Sovereign God that does all things for His glory.
Many, and the vast majority people believe things are getting worse and have to get to the point where it is the worst it could possibly be. But, think to yourself are they getting better or worse? Is it better now or 2000 years ago? 1000 years ago? 500 years ago? 250 years ago? 100 years ago? You get the point here, but who taught you that things are getting worse and not better?
From history and nature, we can clearly see the betterment and improvement of all things, this is because He is reigning and putting all things under His feet (Heb. 10:13). Yes, bad things still happen but those are the affects of living in a sinful, fallen world.
But overall things are getting better and not worse, and they will continue to get better. This is what the Puritans believed, and what they referred to an "eschatology of hope."
